Hexagon Purus Signs First Hydrogen Storage Deal with Egypt’s MCV

Cairo: On April 21, 2025, Hexagon Purus, the Norwegian specialist in hydrogen systems, signed its first deal in Egypt with Manufacturing Commercial Vehicles (MCV) to supply high‑pressure hydrogen storage tanks for MCV’s forthcoming fleet of hydrogen-powered buses.

The agreement, announced on Hydrogen Fuel News, does not disclose the exact number of Type 4 composite pressure vessels involved but marks Hexagon Purus’ debut in North Africa’s hydrogen mobility sector

The partnership leverages Egypt’s abundant solar‑energy potential and strategic location to accelerate the country’s emergence as a green hydrogen hub. Hexagon Purus will deliver lightweight, ultra‑strong storage cylinders capable of safely holding hydrogen at the pressures required for daily heavy‑duty bus operations, while MCV integrates them with fuel‑cell powertrains

MCV, Egypt’s largest bus and coach manufacturer—renowned for producing vehicles for Daimler and Volvo—has already ventured into electric buses and is now advancing into hydrogen to address urban air quality challenges and meet rising emission-reduction targets. This deal follows Hexagon Purus’ prior contracts in Europe and North America and underscores growing global demand for scalable hydrogen infrastructure that can power real‑world transit applications
